Why You Need Protein
When learning about healthy eating, one of the most important nutrients is protein. Of course, all nutrients are very important for our body to be as healthy as possible, but without protein in our food every day, our bodies will not be as strong as they should be. Protein can be found in a number of food sources, so if you are interested in eating healthier foods, you should consider learning more about protein.
Why You Need Protein |
We need to eat protein-rich foods every day because, unlike some other nutrients, it cannot be stored in the body. That means that if you consume more protein than is needed, your body will only cause it to pass through your system. Because of that, you really can't eat too much protein! However, because protein cannot be stored in body problems it can appear around this nutrient as well. If you don't get enough protein on a particular day, your body does not have a backup plan to produce protein yourself or use a backup protein from the previous days. Therefore, protein is very important to consider when you plan your food.
Basically, protein builds muscle, which is why you will see bodybuilders especially related to protein. When you lift the weight to exercise, your body makes small tears in the muscles. Protein is then used to repair healthy tears in the body, building muscle a little bigger with each exercise. Even if you don't succeed, your body's muscles get worse, because your body needs energy. Muscles provide energy, just like fat. Having protein in the body helps you rebuild lost muscle.
Protein also helps a person's body in other ways, especially with the maintenance of hormones. Hormones in the body do a number of things, such as regulating organ function, calculating stimuli, making metabolism, and affecting moods. Protein is used in making several of these different hormones, so if you go more than one or two days without eating foods that are rich in protein, your whole body will suffer.
How can you ensure that you get enough protein? Simply put, look for food with protein as a key component of the label. Some good foods to consider include chicken, beef, pork, eggs, and fish, although vegetarians can also include protein in their food by eating nuts, beans, soy products, and various other foods. You must have some of these foods in your diet every day to ensure that you provide your body with the protein needed to stay healthy.
