The first type of eating disorder that can occur in a person is anorexia. Anorexia occurs when a person is too worried about his weight and only refuses to eat. Someone who suffers from this disease usually tries to hide it by removing food without anyone knowing, cutting the food into small pieces to make it look smaller, or lying about skipping all the food. Anorexia is dangerous because it does not allow a person to lose weight in a healthy way. Cutting fat from the diet is fine, but not getting enough protein, vitamins, minerals, water, and other nutrients can make your body lose weight and weaken.

Another type of major eating disorder is bulimia. Even though you might notice an anorexic losing a lot of weight in a hurry, someone who has bulimia may or may not lose weight. If a person experiences bulimia, he does not have the willpower to let go of food, but instead vomits or uses laxatives after meals to cleanse the body of this food. Like anorexia, this can rob the body of the main nutrients, and can also cause problems in the digestive system, throat, and mouth, which are not done for regularly induced vomiting.

The third major type of eating disorder is a binge meal. This is a combination of anorexia and bulimia in many cases. Party drinkers will, like bulimia, not eliminate themselves from food. In fact, someone who is a party eater will eat large amounts of food at one sitting, and often these foods do not have high nutritional value. Instead of vomiting, party eaters will refuse to eat at all and exercise hard for one or two days, but then sneak once more. This causes a big problem with weight.

Eating disorders can interfere with men and women, as well as people of race, ethnicity, or age. Most commonly, victims of eating disorders are teenagers and young adult girls. Many people die every year due to complications from eating disorders, but if you or someone you know suffers from this problem, help is available.
